A circle of standing players, legs spread just wide enough for someone to crawl through, and a gentle pretend car wash for the player making their way along the row. Human Car Wash is a slow, deliberately gentle game built around care rather than competition.
What you need
Nothing but a group of at least 30 players, forming a circle.
How to play
Everyone forms a circle, holding hands, then turns to face the centre and spaces their feet apart so that a person can crawl through the gap between each pair of legs, with everyone’s feet lightly touching their neighbours’ to close the circle. One player at a time crawls through the row of legs on hands and knees, moving slowly from one gap to the next. As they pass, the standing players gently mime washing the “car,” miming a soft shampoo, a rinse, a dry, and a final coat of wax, before the crawling player reaches their own spot again and stands back up. Each player takes a turn until everyone has been washed.
Safety notes
This is a close-contact game and depends entirely on everyone being gentle, which is worth stating plainly before starting: the mimed washing should be soft pats and light touches, never anything rough. The crawling surface should be clean, flat, and free of anything sharp.
Why it works
This game intentionally slows everything down after a run of faster, louder activities, and the small act of being gently cared for by the whole group, even in a silly, pretend way, tends to leave a group feeling warmer toward each other than it started.
