At EdCaptain, accessible from https://edcaptain.com and though EdCaptain’s mobile apps, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. The following privacy policy governs EdCaptain’s online collection of information from you. Specifically, it outlines the types of information that edcaptain.com gathers about you while you are using this website, and the way that edcaptain.com uses and doesn’t use this information.

1       Information Collection

1.1      Personal Information

In describing our collection, use, and sharing of information in this Policy, we refer to our collection and use of “Personal Information.” “Personal Information,” as used in this Policy, is information that directly identifies an individual, such as first and last name, mailing address, email address or other online contact information, or telephone number. We collect Personal Information, as well as non-personally identifiable information through EdCaptain.

We collect Personal Information in two ways. First, we collect information you provide to us in optional, voluntary submissions, such as subscription or registration forms, surveys, polls, user profiles (and functionality such as your selections using our “follow” feature), promotional signups, signups for virtual or in-person events, sweepstakes/contest entries, requests for customer service, resume submissions, and emails or other communications you send us. Second, some Personal Information may be collected automatically.

We may also obtain information, including Personal Information, from third party sources, including through social networking sites or other third parties that incorporate EdCaptain into their own websites or mobile applications. For example, if you choose to comment on our site by using your credentials from a social networking site, then we will have access to certain information from such social networking site, which may include your name, your photo or other account information, in accordance with the authorization procedures determined by such social networking site. If we directly combine information from third parties with Personal Information that we have collected, we will treat the combined information as Personal Information and handle it in accordance with this Policy. In addition, please note that we may solicit third parties to collect Personal Information on our behalf and in such cases we instruct those third parties to comply with this Policy and all applicable data protection laws.

You are under no obligation to provide, and can decline to provide, any requested information at any time. However if you decline to provide Personal Information that is reasonably necessary to participate in those activities, you may not be able to utilize certain activities on EdCaptain.

EdCaptain uses Sendgrid Email Service and MailChimp’s Subscription Service to send promotional email newsletter and other emails to its users from which users can opt out if they want.

EdCaptain may provide its user’s personal information to the applicable Application Partner (as specified above). The Application Partner’s use of your personal information is subject to the Application Partner’s separate privacy policy – and not this Privacy Statement. The URL to Application Partner’s privacy policies are specified in “Third Party Privacy Policies” section below.

1.2      Passive Data Collection

We may receive passively-collected information through a variety of methods including but not limited to:

1.2.1     Cookies and Web Beacons

Like most web-based services, we may use a variety of methods, including “cookies”, local browser storage, and “Web beacons,” to collect information. A cookie is a small data file that is transferred to an Internet user’s browser by a web server. Cookies are designed to store basic information, such as a user’s preferences. With local storage a website may store information in a user’s browser. In some of our email messages, we may use a “click-through URL” linked to content on EdCaptain. 1.3      Log Files and Usage information

EdCaptain follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services’ analytics. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users’ movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.

1.4      Google DoubleClick DART Cookie

Google is one of a third-party vendor on our site. It also uses cookies, known as DART cookies, to serve ads to our site visitors based upon their visit to www.website.com and other sites on the internet. If you connect through an authorized third party service, you will be able to use your third party login information to log in to your EdCaptain account or access the EdCaptain Website. We are not responsible for the sharing, posting, commenting, or other content and information gathering practices of any third party services that may be triggered by using these third party login services. EdCaptain’s content, including services, media, newsletters and communications that we send to our users, may contain links to content provided by third parties. In connection with some of our products and services, we may use or offer services from third parties, such as location-based services. 1.7      Third Party Privacy Policies

Third-party ad servers or ad networks uses technologies like cookies, JavaScript, or Web Beacons that are used in their respective advertisements and links that appear on EdCaptain’s website, which are sent directly to users’ browser. These technologies are used to measure the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns and/or to personalize the advertising content that you see on websites that you visit.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

1.9      Children’s Information

Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. Children should always get permission from their parents before sending any information about themselves (such as their names, email addresses, and phone numbers) over the Internet, to us or to anyone else. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.

Our website is not directed at children under 13, and we won’t knowingly allow anyone under 13 to provide us any personally identifying information; if you’re under 13, please don’t provide any information about yourself on this website. 1.11  Information Disclosed in Public Areas

You should be aware that if you voluntarily disclose personal information online in a public area of the EdCaptain site, such as on discussion forums, or in chat areas, that information can be seen, collected, and used by others besides EdCaptain. EdCaptain cannot be responsible for any unauthorized third party use of information that you disclose in a public area on the EdCaptain site.

1.12  Job Applications.

If you submit an application to us, we collect data as necessary to consider you for a job opening, including your employment history, transcript, writing samples, and references.

2       Your Choices

2.1      Submitting Personal Information

If you do not want to submit Personal Information that is necessary to provide or use a service or to fulfil your request, you may not be able to access certain online content and/or participate in certain EdCaptain services provided through EdCaptain. For example, you will not be able to participate in certain contests or promotions, or access and/or use the EdCaptain e-newsletter. In addition, your refusal to submit Personal Information may limit our ability to respond to your customer support inquiry in a timely fashion.

2.2      Editing Personal Information

You may, at any time, update, correct, or delete certain Personal Information that you have provided to us by contacting us at the mailing or email address provided at the end of this Policy.

2.3      Marketing Choices

If you want to remove yourself from individual communications, including marketing promotions, updates and email newsletters, simply click the unsubscribe link in the communication. 2.4      Account Deletion

If registered accounts are offered through EdCaptain, you may delete your account with us at any time and we may also delete or suspend your account in our sole discretion. Please be aware that if you delete your account, your Personal Information may be retained in our backup files and archives for a reasonable period of time for legal purposes. If you choose to have an account with us in the future, you may have to sign up for a new account as the information you previously provided or saved within your account may not have been saved.

2.5      Opt Out

To provide users the ability to prevent their data from being used by Google Analytics, Google has developed the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on for the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js, dc.js). 3       Information Security

3.1      Data Integrity and Data Retention

We collect and use Personal Information in accordance with this Policy and only for the purposes stated in this Policy and/or at the time we request such Personal Information from our users, or for such purposes to which a user may otherwise consent. We do not use or share our users’ Personal Information in a way that is incompatible with the purposes for which such Personal Information was requested and authorized for use by us. We retain Personal Information for no longer than is commercially useful to carry out our business purposes, or as we believe may be legally required. Please be aware that even if you update or remove Personal Information that you have provided to us, your Personal Information may be retained in our backup files and archives for a reasonable period of time for legal purposes.

All information gathered on EdCaptain is stored within a controlled database. Although, we use all reasonable efforts to safeguard the privacy of your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of our servers or databases, nor can we guarantee that information you supply won’t be intercepted while being transmitted to us over the Internet. Additionally, we use Google Analytics, and other third party analytics firms, to analyze our users’ use of EdCaptain. The analytics software provides us with aggregated data in order to help us make informed business decisions. We have indicated to the third party analytics firms that we work with that information collected through our use of their respective analytics software on EdCaptain should not be shared with third parties, even in an anonymous, aggregated fashion. Ultimately, such third parties control information collected through their analytics software and you understand that your personal information will be subject to their respective privacy policies.

We have also implemented Google’s reCAPTCHA on our site.  Use of the reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

This Privacy Policy applies only to our online activities and is valid for visitors to our website with regards to the information that they shared and/or collect in EdCaptain.

6.3.1      Web Traffic Analytics

We use Google Analytics application on our website for the following purpose:

  • To monitor website traffic and behaviour flows of users.
  • To analyze the effectiveness of online website features by observing the usage patterns etc.

6.3.2      Advertising

We display non-personalized ads to our EEA users. Non-Personalized ads will use only contextual information, including coarse general (city-level) location, and content on the current site or app; targeting is not based on the profile information or past behaviour of a user.

Although these ads don’t use cookies for ads personalization, they do use cookies to allow for frequency capping, aggregated ad reporting, and to combat fraud and abuse.
