Children often notice what they cannot do before they notice what they already bring. This activity holds both ideas together: skills I can use now and skills I am still building.
Contents
At a glance
- Time: 35–50 minutes
- Group: 4 or more
- Setting: Indoors
What you need
Paper, markers and optional skill picture cards.
How to play
- Make two private lists. Include practical, creative, social and learning skills, not only school subjects.
- Choose one current strength to demonstrate, describe or draw. The group may guess, but the owner gives the final answer.
- Choose one skill to build and write a small first step that could happen this week.
- Share only what feels comfortable, then look across the group for ways people could teach or encourage one another.
Keep it comfortable
Use “building” rather than “weak at.” Do not display private lists without clear permission, and do not turn the activity into a ranking exercise.
Try this variation
Make a class skill bank where children volunteer something they are happy to help others practise.
What children practise
Naming real strengths supports confidence; choosing a small next step turns self-reflection into action.
