Our likes and dislikes: make a living group profile

1 Min Read

A group profile works best when the group decides what it wants to know. Children choose a handful of light questions, answer them on a sheet and then compare notes.

At a glance

  • Time: 25–35 minutes
  • Group: 6 or more
  • Setting: Indoors

What you need

Large paper, markers and tape or clips.

How to play

  1. Invite possible questions: a food you enjoy, a book or story you remember, music you like, a place you would visit or something you prefer not to do.
  2. Vote for four or five questions. Remove anything too personal or likely to single someone out.
  3. Each player writes or draws their answers on a large sheet.
  4. Move around in pairs and look for one similarity and one interesting difference. Share discoveries without judging them.

Keep it comfortable

Make room for “I don’t know” and “I’d rather not answer.” Avoid treating tastes as belonging to a particular gender or culture.

Try this variation

Create a large class chart with anonymous stickers instead of wearable sheets.

What children practise

Children practise asking questions, listening and noticing that a group can contain both common ground and difference.
